I was wondering if anyone can find Mary Ann Goodbody for me in 1851 for me, She was born c 1832 in Norfolk, Married Thomas Ransome in 1855, from that record on Freereg I can find that her father's forename was Hart I think I can find him with a family that excludes her 1n 1841 http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=uki1841&h=8632150&ti=5538&indiv=try&gss=pt&ssrc=pt_t62092192_p34092692149_kpidz0q3d3409269214 9z0q26pgz0q3d32768z0q26pgplz0q3dpid and probably in 1851 http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=uki1851&h=5184982&ti=5538&indiv=try&gss=pt&ssrc=pt_t62092192_p34092692149_kpidz0q3d3409269214 9z0q26pgz0q3d32768z0q26pgplz0q3dpid again without Mary Ann. If anyone has the time to look this over for me that would be wonderful.

Thanks Sue

This might be Mary Ann as a 12-year-old servant in Wreningham in 1841:

This is very probably her in 1851 as sister-in-law of Sarah Crowfoot, wife of George:

if this is her sister's marriage:

No, sorry, FreeReg has the marriage: it confirms the surname Goodbury, and the bride's father is John.

Thanks for that baptism, that gives more credence to the family that I've found, I had spotted the 1841 and wondered about that, who is "jas Goodbody" a few lines up? a brother? Just a thought......

Any chance of a marriage for Hart Goodbody and Susanah (susan in some records) I can't find that either!

I had looked at that one and came to the conclusion it was wrong. There is a 1851 http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=uki1851&rank=1&new=1&ssrc=pt_t62092192_p34092175453_kpidz0q3d3409217545 3z0q26pgz0q3d32768z0q252c32768z0q26pgplz0q3dpidz0q 252cpid_m1&MSAV=0&msT=1&gss=angs-d&gsfn=Mary+Anne&gsln=Goodbody&msbdy=1832&msbpn__ftp=Cossey%2c+Norfolk%2c+England&msrpn__ftp=Wreningham%2c+Norfolk%2c+England&msfng0=Hart&msfns0=Goodbody&msmng0=Susanna&dbOnly=_F00027B9%7c_F00027B9_x%2c_F0003039%7c_F000 3039_x%2c_F000303A%7c_F000303A_x%2c_F00032DB%7c_F0 0032DB_x%2c_83004006%7c_83004006_x%2c_F000303D%7c_ F000303D_x%2c_F000303E%7c_F000303E_x%2c_F00032F6%7 c_F00032F6_x%2c_F0003888%7c_F0003888_x&uidh=y17&mssng0=Thomas+Samuel&mssns0=Ransome&mscng0=Emma&mscns0=Ransome&mscng1=Samuel+J&mscns1=Ransome&mscng2=Fredrick+S&mscns2=Ransome&mscng3=Susanna&mscns3=Ransome&mscng4=Henry&mscns4=Ransome&mscng5=Agnes&mscns5=Ransome&mscng6=Mary+Ann&mscns6=Ransome&msbng0=Robert&msbns0=Goodbody&msbng1=Joseph&msbns1=Goodbody&msbng2=Charlotte&msbns2=Goodbody&msbng3=Harriett&msbns3=Goodbody&msbng4=Susan&msbns4=Goodbody&msbng5=Susanna&msbns5=Goodbody&msbng6=Frances&msbns6=Goodbody&msbng7=Benjamin&msbns7=Goodbody&pcat=CEN_1850&fh=8&h=261942&recoff=5+6+7&ml_rpos=9 But the age is wrong, I can accept place of birth being inaccurate, she was a servant after all!

The James in 1841 is Mary Ann's brother:

https://familysearch.org/search/record/results#count=20&query=+surname:goodbody~%20+record_country:England %20+record_subcountry:%22England,Norfolk%22%20+bir th_place:norfolk%20+birth_year:1820-1840~%20+father_givenname:hart~&collection_id=%281473014%201823613%29

I still can't find a likely candidate in 1851, apart from that Maria Goodbody with the Crawfoot family.

Which starting page are you using for FamilySearch? You should be using this one:

I don't always find that one, but I agree I have more success with that page.

I had assumed he would be her brother, quite nice that she didn't have to go to work at a young age on her own.

The marriage only comes up if you untick the checkbox alongside the Christian name (which is for exact searches), because he's transcribed as Hartt rather than Hart.

Is the baptism Mary found a genuine extracted one? I cannot imagine the vicar describing the parish as Cossey, even if it is pronounced that way.

Mary from Italy
30-10-13, 19:52
Yes; according to the FS catalogue, the source is "Parish registers for Cossey, 1538-1902".

Genuki says of Costessey: "The name is pronounced, and may also be spelled, Cossey", and it's often spelled like that on the censuses (in the birthplace column).

The baptism's also on FreeReg under Costessey, father's name again given as Hartt:

I should have guessed. Some of their descriptions are far from helpful. It doesn't matter in a small county, but in Norfolk it can be really challenging.
