Reading through some Campbeltown court records (my lot do seem to leave their paw prints on history via their appearances before the judiciary!), I came across this:

Petition: Agnes Gardiner spouse to William Bradley, soldier in the 9th Regiment of Foot.

'Concerned a debt to her sister Isabel for which she gave a gown in pledge. The sister had fled the country and the gown had been arrested and notice given that anyone with a right to the gown should come forward. Ann Galbreth spouse to John Matthews, shipmaster, and Charles McQuarry, tailor, were summoned as witnesses. Warrant granted to summon witnesses for Saturday next 15 May 1765.'

I wonder how much the gown was worth? Did it apply for bail?

And quite right too! He who steals my frock, steals me!

I've had quite a few arresting frocks myself over the years but alas, all fled.

*Sighs*

*Cries*
