William Goodenough and Tabitha Grey were both born 1720-25 in Cambridgeshire. According to transcriptions, they married 17 Aug 1750 in Cambridge. FreeREG also has a transcription giving the year as 1749 - this seems more reliable as it also gives William as of Haddenham and Tabitha of Landbeach.

I am fairly certain of William but there was also a William Goodenough who married Mary Soul in 1752 at Haddenham. But I cannot find any children for them.

On rechecking my information on them, I find that familysearch and freeREG disagree on their children.

freeREG has these children for William and Tabitha baptised in Haddenham

Sarah baptised 11 Jun 1750
Elizabeth 28 Jul 1751
James 17 Nov 1753
William 17 Nov 1753
John 14 Jun 1756
Thomas 1 Oct 1758

familysearch agrees on the names but gives Sarah and Elizabeth's place of baptism as Gravely, which is 17miles southwest. familysearch also gives Thomas' baptism as 1 Oct 1748, which is clearly incorrect.

So their son Thomas was my 4ggf.

I wish I could be more sure of this information, and when I have more time, I am looking at purchasing some CD transcrptions from Cambridgeshire FHS.

Find My Past has a marriage of Henry Grey to Tabitha Christmas on 8 October 1723 in Landbeach - both single and of the parish.

Might be the parents of your Tabitha Grey?

Found the baptism on FMP.

Tabitha Grey, baptised in Landbeach on 12 July 1724, daughter of Henry Grey and Tabitha.

The couple had another daughter named Sarah baptised on 30 May 1726, also at Landbeach.

How do you know when and where they were born, please, Di?

Firstly, guessing from place and date of marriage - then found freeREG entry which showed they were from Haddenham and Landbeach, which did not exactly mean that's where they were born, of course,

That baptism and marriage fits well, also seems to have introduced Sarah as a family name.

I think I will have to do a lot more work on the Goodenoughs now. There never used to be any info in freeREG and not much in familysearch.

My ancestry sub is due for renewal - maybe I should seriously consider swapping to FMP for a year instead !!

FreeREG has a baptism for a William Goodenough, 19 Jul 1713, at Witcham to John and Emm Goodenough.

Witcham seems be one parish away from Haddenham, so not too far. Closer than Gravely anyway !

Thanks Shona, I will do some googling tonight when I have some more time. Might have a quick google at morning tea time !

Its funny, my dad call my niece Christmas, her name is Kristen. I love the way Tabitha was passed down through the family. The Creek family passed on "Avis" and Jemima but all that came to a stop in the generation born around 1900. No names to follow anymore !

The Cambs FHS index agrees with FreeReg about the children's births. Its online index only gives the year and the parish, though, presumably to encourage people to buy their CDs.

They have William and Tabitha's marriage as 1749.

To encourage me to buy the CDs ? At 14-17 pounds for each parish or two - I need at least 4 of them - Thetford, Witcham, Landbeach and Haddenham, thats 62 pounds plus postage.

Then I will need Waterbeach, Stretham, Wilburton and where ever the trail might lead.

The parish register transcriptions for Sussex are only about 2 or 3 pounds per parish !
