Our town (Reading) is intending to raise a memorial to two local men who gained the VC. One of them is Sir Charles Russell VC 3rd Baronet. The Chairman of the Memorial Trust wants to get more background info and proof of his birth/death. I've suggested he contacts the local Berkshire Records Office - but just a starter I thought I'd look for his death.
He was born in 1826 in Reading but he died at his family seat, Swallowfield Park, Reading on 13 April 1883.

I've looked on Free BMD/UK BMD/Arrmy Records and even the 1881 Census - all to no avail!

I'm obviously missing a link somewhere:confused: Can somebody help please.
More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Charles_Russell,_3rd_Baronet - is there something else I should enter?

Thanks :)

Dorothy already posted a link to the Wikipedia page, Shona, but I think what she wants is proof because anyone can put stuff on Wikipedia and it isn't always correct.

To add to that he was buried at Swallowfield
Berks FHS cd Swallowfield

Feb 5 1872 Marie Clotilda Russell age 77 died 21 Jan Swallowfield widow of the late Sir Henry Russell
April 20th 1883 Charles Russell Baronet, Swallowfield age 56
March 11 1898 George Russell Baronet, Swallwofield age 69

There are other obviously related Russell burials.

There is an interesting few paragraphs about Swallowfield Park and the family at the beginning of the cd.
