I'm trying to see if I can unravel Moses a bit further but he is being stubborn.
We know his daughter Rosa/Rose married Edward Parker in 1865 at St. Mary Plaistow West Ham Essex
In the 1861 Census at Plaistow are Moses born C 1794 (67) Sevenoaks, Kent, carpenter, Maria C1801 (60) Dagenham, West Ham living with daughter Harriet C1835 dressmaker and 2 grandchildren Ellen and James .
I did have them in the 1851 Census also with Lucy 1836, Edward 1837 and Rosa 1839 but now I can't find them .. I've tried Ancestry, famsearch and free cen ..
Help please.
I would think Moses and Maria would have been married early 1830's in West Ham but can't see it on Ancestry.

Moses is transcribed as Mbers on ancestry:
1851 ancestry (http://interactive.ancestry.co.uk/8860/ESSHO107_1768_1769-0263/4660603?backurl=http%3a%2f%2fsearch.ancestry.co.uk %2fcgi-bin%2fsse.dll%3frank%3d0%26gsfn%3dhar*%26gsln%3d%2 6sx%3d%26f1%3d%26f2%3d%26f4%3d%26f18__n%3d%26f12__ n%3d%26rg_81004011__date%3d1835%26rs_81004011__dat e%3d2%26f27%3d%26f14%3dess*%26f15%3dpla*%26_8000C0 02%3d%26_80008002%3d%26_80018002%3d%26f7%3d%26f8%3 d%26f9%3d%26gskw%3d%26prox%3d1%26db%3duki1851%26ti %3d5538%26ti.si%3d0%26gl%3d%26gss%3dmp-uki1851%26gst%3d%26so%3d3&ssrc=&backlabel=ReturnSearchResults)

and his birthplace on the 1851 census is Rainham Essex.

There is a Moses Smith / Maria Palmer marriage 2 May 1819 at St Dunstan, Stepney, on FamilySearch. Possible? Have you found them on the 1841 census, and have you got baptisms for the children? I have to go out now but will look some more later.

Thanks for that Kate .. pleased you found them in 1851, I'm not sure how I found them originally. .. it is confusing with the 2 birth places for Moses being so different .. they are still living at the same address in Pinnock Place, Plaistow. I have not found them in the 1841
No I didn't find that marriage or their baptisms, it says that the children are all born in Plaistow on the Census. Thanks again. Julie

Back now. 1819 looks more likely for their marriage than 1830's given their ages on those censuses, don't you think?

Yes I think so. I'd imagine that there are older children that Harriet, as she is aged 18 in the 1851 Census and Moses 56 and Maria 50.

This is that marriage on ancestry:

The baptisms could be on Essex Ancestors / SEAX but it is a pay site.

Ah, here they are in 1841 still at the same address. Moses is transcribed as Mamoses on ancestry but to be fair, there is a Mr or something just before Moses on the image:

1841 census (http://interactive.ancestry.co.uk/8978/ESSCHO107_322_323-0714/16285617?backurl=http%3a%2f%2fsearch.ancestry.co.u k%2fcgi-bin%2fsse.dll%3frank%3d0%26gsfn%3d%26gsln%3dsmith% 26sx%3d%26f1%3dEssex%26f2%3d%26f3%3d%26f18%3dMale% 26rg_81004011__date%3d1792%26rs_81004011__date%3d0 %26_82004011%3d%26_82004013%3d%26f7%3d%26f20%3d%26 f8%3d%26f9%3d%26gskw%3d%26prox%3d1%26db%3duki1841% 26ti%3d5538%26ti.si%3d0%26gl%3d%26gss%3drfs%26gst% 3d%26so%3d3&ssrc=&backlabel=ReturnSearchResults)

Kate that is brilliant .. fits with the Maria Palmer marriage ..
Poplar is the same side of the Thames as Pinnock Place ..
I tried looking for the birth of Rose/Rosa on FreeBMD .. now I will go back and look for Rosina
If Maria Palmer could be found born C 1801 at Dagenham would be nice lol

Again, the parish registers are available on Essex Ancestors / SEAX. The cheapest sub is £5 for 24 hours.

Looks like I'll have to invest a little tomorrow. Thanks Kate. Julie
