I've looked on World FMP but I am really not good with that site (got it because I got a very good deal...lol)

I am looking for any info on a Roy G Campbell who travels from Liverpool UK to Canada in 1955. He is aged 59 and travels with his wife Sarah. He is a locomotive engineer and gives his UK address as Brompton House Kensington London, but says he is Canadian.

I'm trying to find anything prior to 1955 to see if he is a "runaway" Aussie.
Thanks.

I don't have world Ancestry so can't help, but just wondered what the G stands for? I thought it was Gilbert, but that seems to be someone to do with MacPanda :confused::confused:

Merry, it is MacPanda I'm helping here.

Her bloke is Roy Gilbert Campbell or Gilbert Roy Campbell and went AWOL after 1936.

There is also an entry for a Roy G Campbell and wife Sarah travelling from New York to Liverpool aboard the Empress of Scotland arriving on 6 April 1957. He intends to stay for 1 month and is an engineer. Intended address given as 293 Egerton Gardens, London W14. DoB given as 3 July 1896 and they are both Canadian citizens.

They are on the UK Incoming Passenger Lists arriving 4 Apr 1955 at Liverpool on the "Empress of Scotland", from Canada. His date of birth 3 Jul 1896, address in the UK 2-3 Everton Gardens, London, SW3, occupation Loco Engineer, Canadian citizen on his passport, country of last permanent residence Canada, country of intended future residence Canada, intended stay in the UK 1 month, visiting. Her date of birth 25 Apr 1895, housewife, rest of info the same.

The 1940 Canadian voters list has Roy G Campbell, locomotive fireman, and Mrs Roy G Campbell, at 25 Laws Street, Toronto. In 1963 they are still at the same address but he is retired and her name is Mrs Sarah Campbell.

On the record from Canada to Liverpool in 1955, he is shown as a 'Loco Engineer' intending to stay in England for 1 month. Staying at 2-3 Everton Gardens, London, S.W.3. Both records show them as visitors to England.

There is a Roy Gladstone Campbell birth 3 Jul 1895 at Peel in the Ontario Births on ancestry, parents Alexr S Campbell and Sarah Pearen. I expect that's him.

Interestingly, given the birthdate a year earlier than the man in the UK Incoming Passenger Lists, (although probably not your man) there is a birth in Ontario on 3 July 1895 for a Roy Gladstone Campbell. Father Alex S Campbell and mother Sarah Pearen.

If he is Panda's runaway grandfather he may have become a Canadian citizen to help hide his identity and place of birth.

I expect Roy Gladstone Campbell is the one on the passenger lists.

Does it not say place of birth in the census?

I expect Roy Gladstone Campbell is the one on the passenger lists.

I agree.

This has the name of his wife, Sarah Ann Jowett:

Roy Gladstone CAMPBELL, 24, Locomotive fireman, Cheltenham - Chinguacousy Tp - Peel Co, 4 Annette St - West Toronto, s/o Alex D. CAMPBELL & Sarah PEAREN, married Sarah Ann JOWETT, 26, Halifax England, Lyn, d/o Walter JOWETT & Mary Hannah WHITEHEAD, witn: Mrs. Rosaltha CARSON, Syracuse NY, Arnold JOWETT, Lyn, 13 Aug 1919 at Brockville

Di this get ruled out?

D.....there is a Roy Campbell (no age) buried Traralgon Cemetery Vic in 1989. I would find the cemetery online and email or ring them and ask if they have any details.

Sorry I thought it was the 1940 census not the voters list.

Julie the one above I don't think is My Gilbert Roy Campbell so the census list would be right for him. Also I think Kite and Merry were talking about the passenger list.

My Gilbert Roy Campbell my last record of him is 1936 State Electoral Roll.
