I wouldn't mind some ideas here...

Henry Farr born 1811, Bristol and Elizabeth Naylor Ariel born 2nd July 1817, Bristol, marry in 1840 in Bristol.

Henry is a solicitor and they move to Wales where all the children are born.

Henry Ariel Farr 1841
Arthur John Farr 1844
Olivia Mary Farr 1846
Agnes Eliza Farr 1849
Flora Charlotte Farr 1850
David Kirkby Farr 1853
Raymond Eyre Farr 1856
Theodosia Harriett Farr 1857
Edith Eyre Farr 1859
Myles Ariel Farr 1860
Charles James Farr 1862

Elizabeth died in 1867 in Gower Glamorgan. No idea what she was doing there?

I have the family in Wales (Christchurch, Monmouthshire) in the census. 1861 and 1871 they are at Kensington Place Christchurch......or it could be Hennington Place.
1881 they are at Albert Ave.

I cannot find any trace of Myles or Charles in 1871. I've tried England and Wales.

Charles in back home in 1881 as an undergraduate of Durham. ??
Myles next shows up at his marriage in Australia in Feb 1891. He's accused of having an affair with a married woman. Must be a habit for the Ariel lot...lol

He later that year marries the woman in Victoria Australia. I have him after that till his death.

Can anyone find Myles Ariel Farr between the census of 1861 and 1891 in Australia?

Can anyone find Charles James Farr in the census of 1871?

I'm assuming they were in school somewhere??

I think it is Kensington Place, Libby.

Myles's birthplace in 1861 is Christchurch, Monmouthshire, and the same for Charles in 1881, in case we need a more accurate birthplace to search on than just Wales.

Does Myles's death certificate say when he is supposed to have arrived in Australia?

Also of "threatening the life" of her husband!

Is this him (also from Trove)?

Mercury and Weekly Courier (Vic) Fri 18 May 1888
Police - Tuesday
Miles Farr, for insulting conduct and being drunk was fined 20s or three days.

Mylesariel Farr Scholar 10 Scholar Namder(?) Monmouthshire

Charles James Farr Scholar 9 Scholar Mamder(?) Monmouthshire

Ancestry has them transcribed as Mylesarice Fan and Charles James Tan. I will post corrections.

Thank you KiteRunner.

Didn't think of Tan. Tried Tarr and Fan...lol

I'm sure that's probably him being drunk Kite.

I've got to check whether he died as an engineer now. There's a mention of his will in a newspaper and they say engineer....

I'll play with that after brekky.

I see he was named after Elizabeths father - Myles Ariel ....
do you have Myles Ariel Farr in 1881 census and his occupation ? aged 20

We haven't found him in 1881 yet Allan but maybe he was in Australia bythen.

I might have to buy his death cert to see when he came to Oz. He's just a twig so it might not be that important....lol. There are quite a few M Farrs coming over paying their own way.

His cousin, Myles Ariel Clark, also came out for a while, but he was 17 years older and was back in England by 1868 in time to marry Mary Ann Rockett.

Time Frame - last mention in Uk and earliest in Aus?

HarrysMum
26-07-13, 10:59
Julie......last mention in UK for Myles Ariel Farr is 1871 census when he is at school aged 11.
First mention in Oz is in Vic having and affair with a married woman in Feb 1891. He goes on to marry her later that year. Divorces must have been quicker then....lol

He is listed as a tailer's assistant. Now he would have been 31 then so seems a bit old to be an assistant.

There is a mention of his will in a WA paper (he died in Vic in 1917) saying he was an engineer....not sure when that happened. They are both in Trove.

I could say something about the "carrying on with married women" but this the nephew of missing Agatha.....lol

He is supposed to have started the affair with the married woman in 1887, isn't he?

Yes, although she and her husband Henry Temple were only married that year.

Looks like Myles was in NZ before he moved to Victoria:

He and his brother Raymond don't seem to be on the NZ electoral rolls, though.

Three years later, brother Arthur is still looking for Raymond:

You're a star Mary.

Wonder what happened in that family. Some seemed very close, others not.

I'd love to go back and be a fly on the wall....lol

1876 makes him only 17. Maybe he'd been a bad boy already and sent off.

Mary from Italy

Very likely. Probably got expelled from school or got some girl pregnant.

HarrysMum

The whole family were nutters!

David Kirkby Farr came here at some stage as well and got struck off as a solicitor in 1889.

Pity's sake....can't any of this lot be normal?

Myles next shows up at his marriage in Australia in Feb 1891.

Are you sure he married Elizabeth in February 1891? Her decree nisi wasn't granted till 2nd June, and the decree absolute would have been granted 6 weeks after that, I think.

I don't have the cert but it is registered 1891 in Victoria. The Feb is from Ancestry. I'll take another look.

Libby, I have just found this thread. I am currently updating a database of clergy who attended the 1st Anglo Catholic Congress in Oxford 1921, and am currently looking at Charles James FARR, son of Henry FARR and Elizabeth Naylor ARIEL.
I am imagining you have more info on him since 2013, but I do have the list of his clergy postings if you are interested.

I did go searching through our old threads when I spotted ARIEL!

Thanks Chris. I have done very little on the Farr family. I got side tracked one my husband’s direct line of Myles, Elizabeth’s brother, and of course, their sister, Agatha.

I only really have bits and pieces. The only bits I have from Australia are little snippets in Trove, or a couple of pieces of mail that found their way to the dead letter office. Not sure if they were eventually delivered.

I wasn't sure what 'not found' referred to here:

1887 priest Salisbury (not found 411;8)

This paper gives the date of his ordination:

Blandford Weekly News 24 December 1887

The Rev. Charles James Farr, B.A., curate of Blandford Forum, was admitted to priests' orders at the Advent ordination at Salisbury Cathedral last Sunday.

('last Sunday' being 18 Dec)

1923 residing 118 Lavenham Road Southfields SW18 London

What was he doing in Wandsworth (SW London)? (rhetorical question - I wondered if it was really him! He's not on the electoral rolls for 118 Lavenham Road.)

His death notices say he retired in 1929 though there are no contemporary notices about this. In Feb 1929 he conducted a wedding at St Martin's church at Charlton (Abbots) and was described as the vicar of that parish. This is the last record I can see of him working.

Someone with Ariel blood and you expect simple answers…….lol
Hubby’s closest DNA match just came back as probably a first cousin, although closer than all of the others………and he is some random fellow we’ve never heard of……lol

Going back through my notes, it appears the 1923 address came from 1923 Crockfords, so I am guessing that maybe he was there for a short time after he retired.

Six years before he retired!

I agree it must have been for a short time gven he wasn't on the electoral roll in London.
