I have just found the burials for Alfred Jeffcoat and his second wife Annie Eleanor at Banstead, Surrey, in 1938 and 1969 respectively.
In the same churchyard was buried Charles Joseph Gerald Jeffcoat, aged 59, in 1968. I didn't think that Alfred had any children, and I can't seem to find out anything about Charles.

Who is this mystery man and is he connected to my family?
NB - In the register his name is spelt "Jefcoat" with just one f.

He got married in 1961 in Surrey Northern district to a Catherine Bridget O'Shea. She died Jan-Mar 1974 in Sutton district. The surname is spelt Jefcoat on the marriage and death indexes.

Thanks, Kate - I hadn't got as far as the marriages.
It might be just a coincidence that he was buried in the same churchyard, but Jeffcoat isn't a very common surname.

He doesn't appear to have been born in England. I doubt now that he is connected to my family.

Fantastic, Merry, thanks.
We are probably related after all if his father was one of the Jef(f)coats from the Midlands, but you'd probably have to go way back for the connection.
It doesn't look as though he remained RC. Mum obviously was, but not Dad. Dad Charles firmly records that he has no religion.
Grandfather, Charles b 1841 Willenhall, Staffs
Great-grandfather Charles b 1812 Bilston, Staffs
East Surrey FHS has the MIs for Banstead. I can't remember whether we had a cut off date when we recorded them, but it might we worth addressing an enquiry, in case there is an MI.
Great-great-grandfather, Edward:

Thanks, Merry.
An Edward Jeffcoat died c. 1855 at Willenhall. There are details of his will on the Jeffcoat site:

Edward was born 1785 Birmigham (he's on the 1851 census next door to his son and grandson)
That all matches up then!

I think I'd need to go back to the 1600s or 1700s to find my connection.
My earliest Jeffcoats seem to be on the Oxfordshire/Northamptonshire borders, but one branch ventured into Warwickshire.
