Can anyone work out the name after William in this '61 image please? Only options on freebmd for a birth about that time are a Robert or Bradley and it doesn't look close to either of those to me, click the image and a bigger version will open in a new tab

Mmm

There is an Alexander birth in 1857 and I've found a bapt with right parents, St Marks, Lincoln (image shows St Marks, Lincoln as pob) but it does look like Elliot to me too.

That's what I thought straight away.

Could it be a middle name?

Probable. So many people including my dad were/are known by their middle name.

I can't find an Alexander baptism or an entry in 1871 (nor a death either), as for middle names it could be but I'm not sure who mum was, if it is from her side I;m stumped right now, it's not a name that figures on the paternal side that I'm aware of.

It's a line I've only been looking at a week or so, links to my grt grandfather and yet more tree entries that share his name across the branches of this lot, harrumph!!!!

First letter doesn't resemble the other "E" entries on the page, looks more like a distorted G than anything but "George" appears on that page several times it bears no resemblance to any of them.

Agree the E isn't identical to the others, but it looks like Ellick - ie Alec - Alexander to me.

Down as a son but most likely bmd results apart from the Alexander is Alice, now that is a name of an aunt.

An Alexander Chambers dies aged 9 in 1866, Worksop RD.

1871 I think the family are Sheffield, 1881 back in Lincoln, grandfather is in Worksop in '71 too, head of house with three grandchildren, oldest of them is a coalminer born Sheffield.

1866 fits for the right age so it looks very likely, now to work out which grandchild fits who in that '71.
