Good morning
my wifes cousin is here with me and is telling me that her fathers ancestors were Welsh ...
her father and my wifes mother are brother and sister - surname Molyneux
I have in my tree John Molyneux b 1856 Woolton ,Liverpool
he married
Sarah Patterson b 1853 Gateacre,Liverpool - they married St James church,Toxteth,Liverpool 1875

Sarah Patterson b 1853 Gateacre - parents
Samuel Patterson b c1830 Woolton,Liverpool
Elizabeth Lloyd b 1830 Woolton,Liverpool

so - I cannot see any Welsh connection ...can someone please check 1841 /1851 census please to see if I have made an error .....
thanks
allan

Just happened to look at the 1861 census first for Sarah Patterson. Found one aged 8 b Gateacre and her mother (remarried) is Elizabeth Guy b abt 1813 from Newmarton, Shropshire which is different to what you say above!

That must be the right family as in 1851 Samuel Patterson and wife Elizabeth (39 b Shropshire New Marton) have Lloyds staying with them and Thomas Guy (who Eliz married in 1856) living nextdoor. Samuel P was born Lancs Little Woolton about 1819.

So no Welsh yet!

Samuel Patterson b c1830
Elizabeth Patterson b 1830
Anne Patterson b 1842
Elizabeth 1845 - 1859
Sarah Patterson 1853

Samuel should be 1819
Eliz 1813

Ann and Eliz are correct, also Ellen aged 2 in 1851.

The Lloyd people in the house in 1851 are Elizabeth's children (Margaret 16 and John 11 in 1851), so are you sure Lloyd was Eliz maiden surname and not her prev married name?

In 1841 Elizabeth Lloyd is living with her two Lloyd children, no man, and she marries Samuel P later the same year.

best fit for Samuel in 1841 is living in Liverpool, is a shoemaker (I can't remember now if that was what he was in 1851?) and says he was born in Scotland! So, not what was said in 1851 or Wales!!!

OK, Elizabeth's Samuel wasn't a shoemaker, so Scotland is a red herring. We don't yet know if Elizabeth was a widow when she married Samuel (unless you have the cert) but surname Lloyd may well have originated in Wales.

I hope they have a lovely holiday!

Samuel was in Little Woolton in 1841 transcribed as Bettison. He says Yes for born in county. He's not with his parents, so no help there.

New Marton is in Ellesmere parish, so if Elizabeth was an unmarried mum, this could be her:

Name: Elizabeth Lloyd
Gender: Female
Christening Date: 17 Feb 1811
Christening Place: ELLESMERE,SHROPSHIRE,ENGLAND
Birth Date: 10 Dec 1810
Birthplace:
Death Date:
Name Note:
Race:
Father's Name: Thomas Lloyd
Father's Birthplace:
Father's Age:
Mother's Name: Jane
Mother's Birthplace:
Mother's Age:
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C03742-1
System Origin: England-ODM
GS Film number: 510664

There's a submitted entry with the same baptism date giving the parents as Thomas Lloyd and Jane Morgan, which sounds pretty Welsh to me!

Hi. Sarah Patterson's mum, Elizabeth Williams, is my 3X GGrandmother. She married 3 times and I'm descended from her first child, Mary Lloyd. Are you still looking into this as I see the thread is very old but I've only just come across it?
