I came across this when I was Googling, and really cannot work out what it is  http://www.worldcat.org/identities/nc-h%20w%20wicks%20canadian%20insurance%20service%20i serlohn%20germany

Does it refer to a book by Michael Wardell - and if so, where would I find what seems to be the only library copy? Or is it referring to a book by Wicks himself?

Thanks

It looks like he was either an Editor, Translator or other contributor.

Thanks Maggie :)

I wonder how I could get a copy

And whether it means he was working for the Canadian Insurance Service at the time, and living in Iserlohn, Germany

I'm guessing it is what he put as his own address on the letter.

I think it probably means he edited, translated or contributed to some of the publications or most probably only one of the collections that they hold namely:-

Hitler, Adolf, 1889-1945

He may have 'contributed' to the other collections but I'm not sure how one would find that out I only picked out Adolf Hitler because of his political leanings and it seems the most likely one that he may have edited, translated or contributed to.

I would contact the archivist and ask if they could establish what collection H W Wicks contributed to and in what capacity.

I assume if he did edit, translate or contribute he has had his name and work place attributed rather than just his name.

There is more info here:
http://www.worldcat.org/title/correspondence-with-michael-wardell-1956-1958/oclc/270528036?referer=di&ht=edition

I don't think it is actually a book, but a collection of letters in a file.

If only it would tell us where it is!

Edit - I think H W Wicks probably wrote one of the letters.

Many thanks Maggie & Kite :)

I'll try contacting the archivist as Maggie suggests - just so long as he/she doesn't want to know how I am related to HW! LOL :d

Wouldn't think they would care or ask its public information/collections they shouldn't query your interest. If they do just say its an history project :D

If you say "mystery" in a mumble, it will sound like "history".

Just say he is your grandfather or whatever you suspect him to be. Just be definite not uncertain of the connection, not that they should ask.
