James became a Burgess of Edinburgh 1 Apr 1747 by right of his father Wm Archibald, tanner, and a Guildbrother 6 Jul 1769. I don't think I have paid to view the images of all his children's baptisms yet, so I may get further information from those.

Probably not so lovely for tanners. I went on a guided tour of the Caves of Nottingham once and we were told what a nasty, smelly job it was!

Yes, I have all that, thanks. The Roll of Edinburgh Burgesses and Guildbrothers used to be available to download free from a site called Scotsfind, which sadly is no more, and I still have it from then. They had quite a few books covering marriages, apprenticeships etc.
