David Greig and Rothes Wilson

This couple may be the parents of my MFFMFM - Ann Greig.

Ann died on 29 April 1874 at the age of 67 at North Toll, Inverkeithing, Fife. Her husband, William Armit, was the informant. Unfortunately, the section for her parents is left blank.

Scotland's People has an Ann Greig born on 4 November 1809 and baptised on 6 November in Auchterderran, Fife. The birth entry records her father as David Greig and her mother as Roth Wilson. I had wondered if this was Ruth, but the baptismal entry expands her mother's name to Rothes.

There is a burial of a David Greig in Auchterderran on 21 September 1823.

However, another David Greig, tenant, Easter Cartmore, Lochgelly, appears on the Electoral Roll for Auchterderran parish in 1832 and 1846.

Of Rothes Wilson, I can find nothing.

I think that Roth/Rothes may be variants of Rothesia.

The name Rothesia is concentrated in a few parishes in Fife with some spread to Edinburgh.

Yes, there was a son named David. No Rothesia that I have found. But in subsequent generations Robina appears and I now wonder if Robina is a corruption of Rothesia.
