These two Paton(e) families having children in Campbeltown in the 17th century:

Robert Patone and Sarah Kilpatrick:
Robert Patone, baptised 3 April 1680
? Patone, baptised 29 3 1681
Margaret Patone, baptised 21 Aug 1692
James Patone, baptised 15 Dec 1700

William Patoune and Jane Patoune:
Grizel Patoune, baptised 19 Jan 1673
Jane Patoune, 20 Jan 1676
Sarah Patoune, 24 May 1674

I think that Robert and William could be brothers and that Robert Patone and Sarah Kilpatrick are more likely to be Ann's parents. Ann Paton married Archibald McNair and I have identified two children - James and Sarah.

I have also found James Kirkpatrick who married Helen Paton in 1711 - children are Robert (1714), John (1717), Sarah (1719), Agnas (1724) and Jean (1726). Not sure how they fit it.
