I cannot find a birth for Jessie on freebmd ...could she be Scottish /Irish ?
if anyone can find Jessies birth it would be most welcome .thanks .

There is a Jessie Isobel Cowie birth in 1908 on Scotland's People, but of course we don't know for sure whether it is the same person.

Edit - just seen Shona's post - so this looks very likely! Birth county is Inverness.

There is a birth for an Alice M Cowie in Liverpool West Derby, 1912. Mother's maiden name is Lowman (from Ancestry). Could this be Jessie's sister? If so, Jessie was back in Liverpool as a three-year-old.

A Mary Maxwell Lowman was born in Liverpool on 15 Jan 1875, baptised at St Peter's, Liverpool, on 21 Jan 1875. Parents named as William Henry Lowman and Alice. From Family Search. This fits in with the place and date of birth indicated in the 1911 census.

Still looking for the father. Wonder if they married in Scotland? Will check SP for you.

Allan, Edward Cowie's service records survive and are on Ancestry!

Lots on info in the records. He was born in Bathgate, Linlithgow. The records confirm the marriage to Mary Maxwell Lowman and the birth of Jessie Isobel and her sister, Alice.

When Edward first enlisted, he named his parents as next of kin - Thomas and Margaret Cowie, Beavershall Terrace, Edinburgh.

Although born in Inverness, Jessie Cowie was baptised in Liverpool on 3 January 1909.
