Found this in Northants Quaker Records.

Thomas Eaton (senr) of Boycott Oxf, husband to Mary, grazier, 73, died 12 November 1776, buried 14 November 1776 Whittlebury.

Shona, many thanks! I had his wife as Ann, but I don't know where the information came from and whether it is correct.

Where are the Northants Quaker records? Are they online? I've been googling but didn't find anything.

I thought that this Thomas may be the father of your Thomas, given the birth dates of your Thomas's children.

Many thanks for the link, Shona. I shall be busy looking at this later.

I've just added some children for Thomas and Ann.

I agree that the Thomas that Shona found could be his father. Two of the children are given as having been born at Boycutt.

I'm suffering from will overload. I've spent a small fortune on them!

EATON THOMAS EATEN 1777 yeoman, Boycott, Oxfordshire Oxford: Bishop & Archdeacon Will, Commission, 99.9; 21/2/22; 302/2/10

Well, more confusion!
He is Mary Jeffcoat's father, not grandfather.
She is named in the will.

There was another THomas Eaten married to a Mary having children about the same time.
But:

Name: Joseph Jeffcutt
Birth Date:
Birthplace: Of Winchinton, Bucks, England
Age:
Spouse's Name: Mary Eaton
Spouse's Birth Date:
Spouse's Birthplace: Of Boycut, England
Spouse's Age:
Event Date: 10 Apr 1771
Event Place: Whittlebury, Northampton, England
Father's Name: John Jeffcutt
Mother's Name:
Spouse's Father's Name: Tos Eaton
Spouse's Mother's Name: Ann Eaton

I wondered if Thomas married twice, but the last child Mickoll (sic) was born in 1769. Unless the mother is a mistake!

Name: Mickoll Eaten
Gender: Male
Christening Date:
Christening Place:
Birth Date: 11 Nov 1769
Birthplace: Whitellbury, England
Father's Name: Thomas Eaten
Mother's Name: Ann Eaten
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C04151-5

Edit - this should be 1759 and is a mistranscription!

The last child that Thomas and Ann had before Mickoll was Martha, in 1758. It seems like a very long gap, 11 years. I need to find a death for Ann Eaton between then and 1764.

Thomas' will mentions:

Wife Mary (gets guardianship of youngest children)
Children:
Thomas
Michael
George
Mary wife of Joseph Jephcott of Winchendon Yeoman (my 4x-great-grandparents)
William
John - joint executor with Mary and getting bulk of legacy

So I think there was a second marriage.

Ooh! Was Thomas married to someone else before his marriage to Ann??

Name: John Eyton
Event Type: Birth
Birth Date: 18 Jul 1736
Birthplace: Biddlesden, Buckinghamshire
Father's Name: Thomas Eyton
Mother's Name: Dorty Eyton
Affiliate Publication Number: RG6_1599

He was born c. 1703, as he was 73 when he died in 1776 (Shona's information).

This would account for John.

From the Northamptonshire PRs now on Ancestry I have found this baptism:

Name: Thomas Eaton
Event Type: Baptism
Birth Date: 30 Mar 1704
Baptism Date: 1 May 1704
Baptism Place: Grendon, Northamptonshire, England
Father: Thos Eaton
Mother: Ann Eaton
Parish as it Appears: Grendon

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=NorthamptonshireEarly&gss=angs-d&new=1&rank=1&gsln=Eaton&gsln_x=0&gskw=Grendon&MSAV=1&uidh=ho3&pcat=34&fh=1&h=1192574&recoff=&ml_rpos=2

I wouldn't normally make the link but Thomas Eaton's will states:
"Item I Give Devise and Bequeath
unto my said son John Eaton All those my several Pieces
and Parcels of Arable Land Ley Meadow and Pasture
Ground lying and being dispersedley in the Common and
Open Fields Parish and Precincts of Grendon in the County
of Northampton containing by Estimation Eight Acres be the
same more or less and now in the Occupation of Douglas Steer
Together with all and singular the Rights Members and
Appurtenances whatsoever to the aforesaid Premises belonging
or in any wise appertaining And all other my Lands Tenements
and Hereditaments whatsoever – To Hold the said Premises
with their Appurtenances unto and to the the use of my said Son
John Eaten his Heirs and Assigns for ever"

So I'm wondering whether I can claim the Grendon baptism as his?
