It is most odd thank you very much for trying xxhugxx
maybe his mother remarried and the kids are under the first husbands name
Here' they are in 1901:
RG13; Piece: 1635; Folio: 116
Looks like the parents married in Wandsworth in 1894.
Have you looked at the full GRO indexes? It may be that as they are probably retyped lists and the name Grote might well only have one entry, that the entry has been missed when the pages were retyped. Or, the entry didn't ever get recorded at the GRO.
Having said the above....these are the 1911 children and birth regs:
Alice 1896 Wandsworth
George 1897 Wandsworth
Dorothy 1898 Wandsworth
Violet 1903 ?
Amy 1904 ?
Harold 1906 ?
Leonard 1907 ?
Lily 1909 Hendon
Margaret 1910 Hendon
So, he's not the only one not obvious! lol

heres the parents marriage
Finchley would be Hendon District.

Well done Merry and thanks Vallee she will be thrilled to have this info, her dad is a mystery xxhugxx
There's a bap for Amy Ruth Grote (one of the ones for whom I couldn't see a birth reg) on Ancestry on 15th Jan 1905 at St Mary, Finchley.
Amy Ruth's baptism is on Ancestry ~ London, England Births and Baptisms 1813 - 1906
Bapt 15th Jan 1905
St Mary, Finchley, Barnet
Oooer where's my post gone ?
eeeek ~ something strange happened .... too late anyway
I looked at the baptisms too but no Harold Albert but then he was born in abt 1906 when the Baptisms stop on Ancestry

I wondered about him too, Lindy, but that Leonard is on the 1911 census at Willesden, Middlesex.
George is signing the form himself in 1911, so he can write perfectly well.
violet is born at Walthamstow, the next few at Finchley. Perhaps after losing two (presumably round about 1900) the others were sickly so Alice didn't get out to register them?
(Is this classic syphillis pattern ala WDYTYA?) - not to cast nasturtiums:)

But again, Lindy, there is a Leonard Arthur Grout age 4 in Lewisham on the 1911 census.
I can't see the death of Leonard, but his widow (if he was dead) seems to have remarried in Q1 1946.
Forget that last post - she remarried in Q1 1958.
