Scotland's People has a Catherine Carnegie death registered in Campbeltown in 1860 but it seems there is no age stated. "Other surname" doesn't match to Scot or Scott, but I suppose that might not be filled in either.

I'll check her daughter's marriage to the grave robber, John McLean, to see whether her mother is still alive in 1855.

The place they lived in 1841 doesn't seem to exist. However, there is a townland in N Ireland named Crockmorran.

Just viewed the image on Scotland's People. Pleased that for once, there is more than just the name of the bride and groom!

Here is the transcript from the Campbeltown OPR:

'James Carnegie, labourer, Ballemanoch, and Catharine Scott, daughter of the deceased William Scott, late weaver Kirkmichael, both of this parish was married 16 March 1813.'

I can't find a birth / baptism for Catherine on FamilySearch or Scotland's People or anything on William. :(

I can't find a birth / baptism for Catherine on FamilySearch or Scotland's People or anything on William. :(

Thanks for looking. I've been chasing shadows looking for William Scott, too. :(
Scott isn't a common name in Kintyre, so William may have been from a Lowland 'planter' family. On the other hand, the Lowland planters rarely got hitched to the somewhat itinerant Irish families.

I have, however, found a William Scott born on 10 May 1771 and baptised 12 May in Campbeltown, parents are James Scot and Margaret Peterson.

There's also a John Scott born on 14 July 1776 and baptised the next day in Campbeltown. Parents are William Scott and Catherine Beith (another Lowland name).

Now this is strange - the marriage between William Scott and Katherin Beeth is on FamilySearch, 16 Jul 1768 at Campbeltown, but the only child listed on there for that couple is the John who you found. But there are these baptisms, also at Campbeltown:
Jean Sloun born 12 Apr 1769 baptised 13 Apr 1769 parents William Sloun and Katherin Beeth
Ann Slowan born 21 Aug 1770 baptised 22 Aug 1770, parents William Slowan and Katherin Beeth
Elizabeth Slowan born 20 Jul 1772 baptised 20 Jul 1772, parents William Slowan and Katherin Beeth
Mary Sloun born 10 Jun 1774, parents William Sloun and Katherin Beeth
Joseph Slouan baptised 11 Jul 1778, parents William Slouan and Katherin Beeth.

No marriage between William Sloan and Katherin Beeth that I can see, and a gap between Mary and Joseph where John fits in nicely. But anyway, the Sloans don't have a son William or a daughter Catherine so this doesn't really help!
