There is a Peggy Greentree baptism on FamilySearch 8 Dec 1792 at Harting, Sussex, parents John and Ann. And a death date for Peggy of 28 Jun 1794.

And a John Greentree baptised at Harting 22 Nov 1795, parents John and Ann.

Then there is an Ann Greentree baptism 23 Oct 1796 at Westbourne, Sussex, parents John and Ann. Not sure whether this one is likely to be the same family. Do you know whether the Ann born in 1785 died young?

Thanks Kate. I think there could be another John and Ann Greentree and the one at Westbourne could be Ann Collins. I think someone has a tree where they have attached William to this couple. From what I can see the family stayed in Harting.

Sussex Family History Group has a burial at St Mary, Harting for an Ann Greentree "of South Harting" aged 85 on 27 Dec 1839. Son John was buried 7 Feb 1780 (noted as son of John & Ann)

:D:D:D Many thanks Jill. I do like being able to bury the first John so that the 2nd John fits, the age at burial of Ann is certainly compatible with the marriage date.
South Harting seems like where they were for generations. I have visited the fascinating church there and happened on the vicar, but there aren't any Greentrees in his congregation now unfortunately.
I have been meaning to join the Sussex FHG as I also have my ancestors at Mayfield/Rotherfield etc. Would the Sussex FHG cover both areas, or are there regional groups?

It covers both East & West Sussex - Mayfield baptisms go from 1666-1890, Rotherfield St Denys from 1539-1881, Mayfield burials from 1666-1900 and Rotherfield burials 1529-1900 plus a handful for the Baptist Chapel, so looks like it would be worth your joining, though as subscriptions run from Jan 1st it would not be worth joining until then.
