Last weeks 4 x greatgrand parent thread has reignited my interest in the Smith family, which had previously been a brickwall and I am looking for a little help to tie up a few ends, before my Ancestry sub runs out later this month.

I have Mary Smith in 1841 in Louth Lincolnshire, with son Free my ggg grandfather), daughters Elizabeth & Rebecca

I have baptisms for Free & Elizabeth but not Rebecca, as well as other daughters, Ann, Mary & Diana.
Thanks to the thread & good work by Shona, I found a marriage for Mary, in Caistor and when I searched for her using Caistor as a place of birth, I found her in 1851 & 1861 with daughter Ann, now married to William Bordman(Boordman/Boardman)

She isn't with them in 1871, so I assumed she had died but struggled to find a matching death & burial (I have a burial index for that part of Lincs). I then looked for her on her own in 1871 & 1881 & found a possbile match in London, this time with daughter Rebecca. The daughter's age is out by a couple of years but it did seem a bit of a coincidence. Rebecca is shown as coming from Boston or Bolingbroke, neither of which really fit.

There are loads of trees on Ancestry with Mary on, giving her death as July 1860 in Laceby, but I haven't found a Mary Smith being buried in Laceby in that year & have no idea where the info came from, apart from that it seems to have been copied from tree to tree.

Can anyone help me shed light on this please?

There is just one death for a Mary Smith in Caistor reg district in 1860 - April/May/June quarter:

But as she is alive in 1861, that record can be disregarded. However, it may be that this record has been assumed to be the correct record and used by others on the public trees on Ancestry, as they didn't make the connection with the Boardman family.

There is a death of a Mary Smith in Caistor reg district in the fourth quarter of 1861, so this would fit in with the census:

According to the burial index, a Mary Smith aged 42 was buried in Market Rasen 19/5/1860, which would fit his death, but would be too young for my Mary & doesn't match the tree details either.
The burial in 1861 was 21/11 & she was aged 47, again in Market Rasen, but still too young.

I should add that I believe that I have Rebecca in 1851 in Kingston upon Hull aged 20 born in Louth, working as a cook, which fits with the Rebecca in 1881,

FamilySearch has a baptism of a Rebecca Smith 10 Apr 1831 Carrington, Lincolnshire, parents James and Mary. Carrington is the next village to New Bolingbroke, according to my road atlas (and not far from Boston).

That is interesting Kate, I wonder if it is on Lincs to my past to check the father's occupation.
Edit sadly not for that far back :(

I now have the baptism, thanks to Lincolnshire archives who checked it for me. It gives james' occupation as labourer, which can cover lots of occuptions & their adress as being New Bolingbroke which fits with the census record I found. I have now also found her in 1891, at the same address as in 1881, this time giving her place of birth as Louth. Similarly in 1901, she is in Paddington giving her place of birth as Louth, whereas she is at the same address in 1911 but giving her place of birth as Bolingbroke again.
I am now as sure as I can be that this is the correct Rebecca & Mary
