Just under half way down the left hand page, the name Jacob is clearly visible. What does the whole entry say please?
I don't wish to influence opinions but some of the entries on the opposite page may help. Thanks

Sepult (= buried) Jacob Henr Canell fil (= son) Jacob Canell 13 Decemb
I can't figure out what the word at the end is.
The "n" in Canell has a line over it to show that something has been left out, presumably a second n as the name is spelt Cannell in some of the entries.

Thanks Kate, that was what I was hoping. Is the year 1685?
I've decided to do a ONS on CANNELLs in Norfolk. A lot of research has already been done but I'm re-doing it to try to allocate all known CANNELLs to the correct families & hope by the process of elimination to find where mine fit in.
I have several hypotheses which I'm trying to prove the possibility of.

Is the year 1685?
Yes.
Glen, I remember seeing connections made online between the Norfolk Cannells and my East London Cannells (late 16th/ early 17th) but I think there's just some similar first names. Let me know if you find anything though :-)

Thanks Kate.
Asa I downloaded the Ancestry records before my sub. lapsed for that very reason mainly Aquila & Augustine then realised the Aquila was from Norfolk anyway.
Who are your earliest CANNELLs - I'll keep an eye out.
Glen, mine were Huguenots -descended from an Abraham Cannell/ Canale etc son of Jerom who married in the Walloon Church in Canterbury in 1658. They had several children there and then went to Dublin but some of the children including my ancestor Benjamin (1674-1714) went to London and became members of the Threadneedle Street church. I think the Cannell descendants of Benjamin more or less died out by the end of the C18th but there are such a lot of Cannells springing up in St Dunstan Stepney in the century I can't be certain if they're related or not.
If they married in the Walloon church, then they most likely originated from what is now Belgium.
Hi Shona - yes mine were refugees but I think there are claims that some of the Cannells in Norfolk were descended from my ones and vice versa or that they were connected somehow.
I'm sure you've seen this website already. Loads of interesting detail about the Walloons in Canterbury.
