thanks JBee I thought colour guide ? but not sure what that is and I cannot find him with that occupation on any census

Colour grinder. Someone who operates a machine used to dye fibres and textiles. Think of grinder in the sense of organ grinder.

If you look at the 'r' at the end of colour, it is similar to the 'r' in grinder.
