Hi All,

I am really hoping someone could take a look on the 1891 census for the above lady as I cannot locate her at all and sometimes a second pair of eyes is whats needed.

I received the death cert of my great x 3 grandfather Henry Jones yesterday and he died on the 1st July 1888 at Grindleford Bridge, Eyam Woodlands, Derbyshire. His death was registered by grand daughter, Anne Shipston of the same abode.

Henry only had 4 children, all sons, so looked for any Jones' who married a Shipston and there is one in Ecclesall Bierlow of an Ann Eliza Jones to a Henry Shipston.

I do have Ann Eliza in my tree. She is the eldest daughter of my great x 2 grandfather, William Jones and was born on the 26th June 1866 (making her about 18 when she married Mr Shipston).

I cannot locate any Ann Eliza/Ann/Annie Shipston (tried numerous variations of surname) in Sheffield (where her family still are) or in Eyam Woodlands. I cannot locate a Henry either

Any help with this lady, much appreciated :)

I found this Shipston family in Nottinghamshire. Some of them were born in Derbyshire.

Hi Shona & JB

Many thanks for taking a look. That second family cant be the right one as the Henry is a son and still unmarried. He is with his parents and siblings.

Not sure about the first lady, name and age are incorrect but I havnt discounted anything with these Jones' as all of them told lies lol.

There's this one:

1891 census (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec?htx=view&r=5538&dbid=6598&iid=WRYRG12_3818_3821-0091&fn=Annie+E&ln=Shipton&st=r&ssrc=&pid=3844299)

I think it says she is single, but that's a lot of children. I can't get the image to open properly so I can't read most of it.

Where was your Ann Eliza born, Claire?

Ah thats a shame, it looked a good possibility, though I would have thought maybe one child at least was born in Derbyshire. My great x 3 grandfather, Henry, was actually living in Norton near Sheffield but didnt die there so presumed he was visiting his grand daughter who lived in Eyam.

There is a death of an Anne E Shipston Oct-Dec 1927 in Chelmsford, Essex, age 60.

And a passenger arrival of a Henry and Mrs Anne E Shipston at Liverpool in Feb 1927 from Canada. He is a poultry farmer. His age is 62, hers 59.

The 1891 census of Canada has Henry Shipston age 25 and Annie age 23, both born in England, in Nepean, Carleton, Ontario. His occupation carpenter.

Oh, I never even considered them possibly going abroad. Her age on her arrival from Canada fits well with when she was born, just a year out. I will try and look at this couple in more depth.

Many thanks :)

Then on the 1906 Canadian census they are in Brandon, Manitoba, no children. Year of immigration to Canada is shown as 1888.

That would explain perfectly why I cannot locate them on any census. They cant have left much after she registered her grandfather's death in July 1888.

Possibly a legacy from her grandfather funded the emigration fares. My aunt emigrated to Canada not long after she sold her father's house.

Very possible Uncle John. Henry's wife had died a couple of years earlier so maybe she did sell his home after he passed away and then moved. He didnt leave any will though and all four of his children were alive.

Whilst looking at Ann Eliza's uncle Henry Marshall Jones, it appears he deserted his family twice and the second time, he was apprehended in 1887 at.....Grindleford Bridge!
