I have U.D. on OH's birth certificate - it is Urban District.
U.S.D. is Urban Sanitary District (I think).

Jood, I should say that the initials U.D. and U.S.D. apply throughout the country. OH was born in the Winchester district and U.D. is on his birth certificate.

It was part of the parish of St Mary de Lode, within the City boundary.

Thanks Sabrina, then how far would it be from Glos, Cheltenham and Charlton Kings? (back then I mean - 1840s)
