Could someone point me in the right direction for Canadian records please?
I have a George Bowdrey born 1890 in West Drayton, Hillingdon. Found a reference to a record on FMP (not a member so can't look into it further) where he departed from Liverpool in 1904 and arrived at Montreal.

He joined the Canadian Regiment in 1916, served in WW1, was returned to England in 1919 when he married Agnes Amelia Gillett. He then returned to Canada in October of that year.

Any good sites that you know of that I could look at please?

Have a try on here for free stuff, Trish:

Apart from that, worldwide ancestry is good for Canada.

He is listed on here & you can view his attestation papers for free!

Library & Archives Canada

I'll go through my Canadian lists of sites & see if I can find others for you to search.

Each province seems to have different rules as to what is available online. Some list BMDs over 70 years old, but others have strict privacy laws. It depends which province he settled in.

It's lovely to see the description in those papers isn't it? I was thrilled when I found my Grandad's. Pity there are no photos! ;) I never knew my Grandad as he died when I was 2 and he was Canadian and I was in England with a Canadian Dad & an English Mum!

Funnily enough, that was the first thing I said to my OH, that it was a shame there was no photo (sometimes I want everything!:d). His description fits the family perfectly though with the colouring of hair, eyes etc..

This is a good site for some of the Census, you do have to trawl through area by area, though but it is indexed for each area,
