A different pair this time, though :d

Amelia Matilda WHEELER (b 1855, Bethnal Green) marries William Greenleaf (FreeBMD) or Greenfox (Ancestry London Marriages) LYTHGOW (b c1856), 25 Dec 1876 @ St Peter's Bethnal Green.

Then I can't find either of them.

William's father's name was James and looking at 1871/61 census he may have been born in Colchester but not definite.

The witnesses to the marriage were Amelia's brothers in law.

I'm wondering if they emigrated? I'm not seeing any obvious candidates on the Immigration indexes or on Family Search.

Can anyone find them anywhere?

There are no Lythgow births for 8 years after the marriage (and the first one comes three Qs after the next Lythgow marriage!) and there's no death or remarriage for Amelia or William, so I'm thinking either they changed their names or they emigrated, but I don't know which!!

Found them in 1881 - using his middle name as a surname. Greenleaf.

I've been looking for these two on and off for years. One comment from Merry and I get a eureka moment!

I don't see any marriages for James Lithgow (Wm's father) to anyone, never mind to Emma! Emma is Emma Greenleaf in 1851.

He generally gives his birth date as 1857 so I wondered if he had been registered before the marriage as Greenleaf but I can't see him under either name.

Edit found his birth reg now under GREENLIEF , 1856, Colchester

I've been filling in the gaps on the Wheeler side of my tree and that may be the last now. So you can rest easy that there probably won't be another query tomorrow.:D

Unless you fancy finding parents for John Wheeler, a weaver, b 1777ish in Middlesex of course :d
