The marriage of George Gallthrop and Sarah ? near the top of the page.

I can't make out her surname at all. It's very faint.

Payne or Toyne?

KiteRunner, thanks, that's possible. I shall trawl through the register later to see if there are any others with the same surname.

I really like this website. You can add your own transcriptions and when you Google you get a link. However, no image number is given so you have to wade through the registers.

This is a horrendous name to research:

Gallthrop
Gallthorpe
Gawthrop
Gawthorp
Gawthorp
Gawtherup
Cawthorne

and many other versions!

I had a quick look on FamilySearch and there was a Sarah Toyne baptised at Aisthorpe (not that far from Upton / Kexby) in 1655, father Philip.

Thanks, KiteRunner, I'll have a look.

Rachel, you are a whizz - that is so much clearer.

I received 6 wills/admons/inventories from Lincoln today, one of which was an inventory for Sarah Gawthorp (as she became).

She had £141-0-0 at interest, which must have been a lot for 1722!

Her total assets were £156-1-6.

The inventory was made by Fran Toyne, John Toyne and Fran Toyne (followed by a work I can't read but it ends "ner".

I suspect a couple of them were her brothers or nephews but I can't really work out her parentage with any certainty.

Didn't Bach do something in 1722 ?

Wonder what you could buy with all that ....

Thanks, Shona.

I have sorted this lady out now, as you might have seen from my other thread about George Gawthorp's will.

Sarah was born Sarah Codd, married John Toyn in 1675 and had a son John with him in 1676. John Toyn must have died as in 1679 she, as Sarah Toyn, married George Gawthorp/Gallthorp.

In George's will he names Sarah, their daughter, as Sarah Wood, from whom I'm descended, but also "my son John Toyn". This is how I discovered Sarah's previous marriage.:D
