In my tree I have a Robert Elmer married to Mary Whiter, marriage and family as follows;
Marriage at Brisley, Norfolk 29/10/1786

Thomas Elmer was born 1793 in North Elmham, Norfolk
John Elmer was born 1793 in North Elmham, Norfolk (twin to Thomas)
Mary Elmer was born 1795 in North Elmham, Norfolk
Joseph Elmer was born 1798 in North Elmham, Norfolk

Two other births of interest at North Elmham to a Robert and Mary, I haven't linked these to my tree;

27 Jul 1804 ELMER George
14 Jan 1802 ELMER Arthur

BUT..........

What concerns me is the gap between the marriage and the births and also the two following burial records;

04 Jan 1794, Brisley, Norfolk, Mary Elmer, wife of Robert
01 Jan 1807, North Elmham, Mary Elmer, wife of Robert

Have I fouled up the family somewhere and are George and Arthur mine?

++++++Edit++++

Just to add in the 1841 return, though I haven't seen it, there is a Robert Elmer aged 75 living with John Elmer & family in North Elmham.

FreeREG shows the 1794 burial to be Mary Elmer, age 66, pauper, wife of Joseph. :confused:

I've checked the image on FamilySearch for that 1794 burial and FreeREG is correct.

Looking through the PR images for Brisley on FamilySearch there is a baptism of a Robert Elmer son of Robert and Mary 2 May 1788 (image no 22 of Baps Mars & Burs 1698-1812).

Sorry, missed all your replies there, yeah they are baptisms,

Strange about that 1794 burial, I'm definately looking at the names Robert and Mary here, just searched again and that's what I'm getting!!???

Also FamilySearch has a baptism for William Whitar Elmer 6 Apr 1790 at Stanfield, Norfolk, parents Robert Elmer and Mary Whitar. (I haven't checked the image for this.)

Doh! Yeah I have that one, my 3rd or 4th great grandfather....maybe I should give up for the day!! And probably answered the question about fouling up my tree too!

Now that one is interesting, the Robert bapt 1788 married into the Curson family and they come from there.

So for the above that are baptisms not births - you don't know that the children were small babies. Did the baptism register show the first two were twins?

There is a note that they were twins on the freereg record and the baptisms were the same place, same day, 17th Feb 1793.

The Archdeacon's Transcript says Baptized 1793:
John}
Thomas} Twin Sons of Robert and Mary Elmer Paupers February 17

(as far as I can see, FamilySearch doesn't have the North Elmham PR's, but they do have the AT's.)

Then 1796 baptisms: Mary Daughter of Robert and Mary Elmer January 28
1798: Joseph Son of Robert & Mary Elmer August 22nd
I think 1800 would be in the Bishop's Transcripts but those aren't so easy to browse through.
1802: Arthur Son of Robert and Mary Elmer January 14th

(Now it's stopped loading the images for me. I was up to image #163.)

Thanks

I'm having problems with familysearch and freereg, everything has ground to a halt tonight.

So George and Arthur are still possibles, Arthur is a name that doesn't appear anywhere else but the rest certainly do, not that it's proof either way of course.
