I don't seem to be having much luck with the census at the moment. Lots of people seemingly missing, mistranscribed or hiding and not wanting to be found.

I wonder if I could have a second pair of eyes to look for this gentleman:

Charles Skillman, born c1817 in Wye, Kent.

He lived in Brighton, and remarried to Maria Trott in 1879. She was much younger than him.
The couple are here in 1881:

Charles has knocked 10 years off his age but I am sure it is him, based on the occupation (Retired Schoolmaster).

Charles died in Brighton in 1893 (correct age - 76).

I have found Maria in 1901 still in Brighton, so I would assume they are in Brighton in 1891, but cannot find them.

Thanks for looking.

They are transcribed as Thal Skillman and Marie on ancestry, Tom.

(Edit - Maggie got there before me!)

Thanks Maggie and Kate.

I thought I'd looked just under Skillman with no first name but obviously not.

Think I've been looking for too many people today and starting to get muddled.

Thanks again.

To be fair to ancestry, it does look like Thal on the image.

:D

That happens to me I seem to spend hours looking for one person all sorts of ways finally I give up and then a few days later I try again and they pop up first time and I think I'm sure they weren't there before but I think after a while you get word blind.

Yes it does doesn't it Kate.

I can only assume that on the householder's paper it was written as Chas. and it has been copied that way.

Because of that reason I couldn't add a transcription error, but I added it in the "Extra information" bit so hopefully it will eventually show up on a Charles Skillman search.

Typical isn't it Maggie - spend ages and then someone else finds them in minutes :)
