Quick question on the UK Poll books on Ancestry

Hi All,

I've just located my ancestor Joshua Beckitt on one of the above in 1835. My question is what the 3 columns mean (PRKR., BUCK., & BAILY.)? I've not looked at these records and didnt know they were there.

Joshua has a 1 in both the PRKR & BUCK columns and wondered what it meant :confused:

It shows who he voted for - Parker, Buckingham or Bailey. If you look at image numbers 870 - 877 you will find a full report on the election.

If you move to image 875 and look bottom left, you will see the names of the people the electors were voting for (the columns are abreviations of their names). No secret ballots in those days!

We still get to vote for more than one person in some council elections, where a ward is represented by more than one councillor. For instance, in the ward where I live, we have two city councillors so we get 2 votes each.
