This is the marriage record of Newbourn Wood, my 4x great-grandfather, to his second wife, Elizabeth Robson.

No. 254 at the bottom of the left-hand page.

The word "Visitation" is written right at the bottom on the right. What would this signify?

That the archdeacon (or Bishop's representative) has examined the register to ensure a true copy has been taken. Usually (but not always) happens just after Easter.

Thanks, Phoenix, so nothing to do with the marriage, just a comment at the bottom of the page.

I must have vaguely known this, but it was too deep in the recesses of my mind!
