Hi Babs
The problem is that the scan is not good.
As Wendy already said, the resolution is low which means that the image is badly pixellated
(all those little squares/rectangles which look like texture).

The only way to get rid of them results in a blurred image.

The solution would be to get your cousin to rescan at 300 dpi.

Hmmmmph ~ it's so frustrating isn't it.
For almost 4 years I've been on the trail of some pics of my gt gt grandparents.
A distant cousin in NZ sent me copies of photocopies ~ it was great to have them but the quality is pretty bad and there is absolutely no way of improving them.

Another photocopy she sent shows 2 women and 2 children who we can not identify. One of the children also appears in a photo I have, so we know there's some family connection but who they are, remains a mystery :(

At the beginning of this year, cousin, gave me the email address of another cousin who said she had the original photos and it was about a month ago that she finally emailed to me to say that she doesn't have them at all ! :(:(:(

So it's back to square one ..........

I would be saying Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Rachel lol yes its very flustrating but at least these are only cousins of my GG Gradfather so at least not direct line so to speak ;;
