Hi All,

I am struggling to locate another family, this time on the 1901 census. The family could be in the UK or Ireland.

Mother's name is Ann Shearing (nee Gosnay) and she was born in 1877 in Stannington (Bradfield), near Sheffield, South Yorkshire. She married Henry Shearing in the Dec Q of 1896. By 1901, they had 3 children that I know of; Clara Ann Shearing born 1897 in Sheffield, William Henry Shearing born 1898 in Sheffield and John Willis Shearing born 1900 in Dublin, Ireland accoring to the 1911 census.

Clara is with her grandmother in Sheffield on the 1901 census but I havnt yet located Ann, husband Henry and children John & William on this census.

On the 1911 census, Ann has married again to George Palin in 1909 and John Willis Shearing is with them. Clara & William are with Ann's mother.

Any help finding the missing family members on the 1901 is much appreciated :)

I tried the Irish census first, but couldn't see any of them. Do you know how old Henry was? (and/or where he was from etc)

Thanks Merry. I dont know anything about Henry at the moment as I dont have the certificate and not sure which is the right one on the 1891 census :(

I havnt even found a death for him yet which you would presume is between 1900 and 1909

HI Elizabeth,

Ann and her sister Minnie along with their families did all end up emigrating to Canada. I had found that information on Ancestry before. Its the only info I have where Henry is named as William Henry so not sure if thats a mistake or he really was William Henry.

There is a Barbara Cora Shearing death in Dublin South Jul-Sep 1901 age 0, same district where John Willis Shearing's birth was registered Jul-Sep 1900. Could be the same family? I can't find Barbara Cora Shearing's birth registration.

I am very confident that will be another of their children Kite as Ann's mother was called Cora :)

So they really should be in Ireland for the census. Still looking.....

It does say on the Irish census site that some unspecified bits of the 1901 census are missing.

Maybe if you get a certificate we will be able to find out more about Henry.

I know that I may have to Kite, though this isnt my direct line so may have to go on my list of things to find the next time I get chance to look at parish records at the archives :)

Hello. I am a great-grandson of Ann, descended from her marriage to George Palin. We are still in contact with several descendants of Clara Shearing as well. I am in Canada, while most of those descendants are now in the USA. If I can help with any other information, please let me know.

Kevin

Hello Kevin, lovely to hear from you. I never did find out what happened to your great grandmother Ann after she emigrated to Canada. Any information is really appreciated. I didn't know Clara's descendants ended up in the USA. Did Clara emigrate there?

I descend from Walter King who is my great x 2 grandfather. He is your great x 2 grandmother Cora King (Gosnay/Wright) brother.

I will PM you with my email address. I have a photo of Cora's gravestone from Stannington Christ Churchyard that you may want.

Regards, Claire
