Hi All,

I've been trying to find Jane Rimmer on the 1851 census with no joy. I would really appreciate a 2nd pair of eyes to help find her if possible.

She was born in 1821 in Newcastle upon Tyne but married in Liverpool in 1843 to William Rimmer. I've got her on the 61 census in Birkdale, Lancs with William and there is a daughter, Elizabeth Rimmer, who was born in Stockport in 1844; so she should also be on the 51 census but I cannot find them even by looking for William or Elizabeth.

Many thanks in advance :)

What are Wm's details please, or can you supply the 1861 census ref as I can't see Elizabeth.

Bother - earlier (before I knew Wm's details) I saw a Wm who was a painter and was away from his family.

Now I've found these people in 1851 - Jane 27 and Eliz 7:

1851 Census
BIMMER, Elizabeth
HOLYWELL, Flintshire
HO107 piece 2501 folio 534 page

But Jane is b Scotland. Eliz is b Southport and Jane is married but no husband.

Can I re-find William to see if he fitted? No I can't! lol I think the one I found was too young, but I can't remember!

Ah, it was when I did Rimers b Stockport:

REMMER, William Lodger Married M 31 1820 Painter
Stockport, Cheshire

So, probably too old and b wrong place.

Thank you so much Merry for your help. So sorry for putting the wrong place.

I am confident the Jane born Scotland is her as her parents married there a few months earlier. Her baptism is Newcastle on Tyne and all later census says there but I think this is her.

That William is probably him as on later census he is born circa 1820/1

I don't like it when families are apart and travel about a lot as these seem to have done!

Totally agree, it causes a real headache. I've had it a couple of times now in my tree and interestingly, the missing hubby has always been a painter.

This particular family, the Adams family, (Jane's maiden name), are causing me real problems as the whole clan went their different ways to different parts of the country. I dont think I will ever find Jane's mother's death as it could be anywhere!
