Date and place of birth – abt 1790, probably in Gloucestershire

Names of parents – if baptism is correct, John Cleevely and Martha (listed as Guy on a public tree on Ancestry, although this tree has a different spouse listed for Thomas. It also has a residence for Thomas ten years after his death – so probably not a very reliable source!) Another Ancestry tree lists Thomas with the correct spouse, but no maiden name for Martha.

Date and place of baptism – possibly 6 June 1790 in Charlton Kings, Gloucestershire

Details of each of his or her marriages – to Sarah Roberts, 1 November 1813, Hempsted, Gloucestershire

Occupation(s) – Labourer (on son’s baptism in 1813)

Addresses where they lived (including county if in UK) - and please list which censuses you have or haven't found him/her on (if s/he lived in census times!).
All known children baptised between 1813 and 1827 in Charlton Kings, Gloucestershire

Date, place and cause of death – 1862, probably in Charlton Kings

I see he was 72 (freereg).

That would make him the husband of Susannah in 1841/51 and 1861 (most likely).

So, did he remarry and if he did then you could get his father's name from the cert if it was between 1838 and 1841. I guess you need to check out the children he had with him in 1841 to see if their mother was Sarah, Susannah or someone else! lol

In 1851 they have Thomas 30 and James 24 and in 1841 William 20, Sarah 15 and James 10.

I think there were two Thomas Cle(e)v(e)l(e)y's in Charlton Kings at the same time and of similar ages, one married to Sarah & one married to Susannah. The trouble is the spelling of the surname is different depending on what records you look at. I have a probable death for Sarah in 1838.

Thomas and Sarah's children were Robert (b 1813), John (b 1816), Martha (b1819), Thomas (b1820) and Sarah (b1825). There may also have been a James (b 1827) but I think he may belong to Thomas & Susannah.

Actually, looking at the 1851 census records again, the ages of the children Thomas & James match the birth years I have for them. I hadn't thought of 'my' Thomas marrying Susannah after Sarah's death. Doh!!

Also there is only the one Thomas of the right age on the censuses, so either yours married Susannah or yours died before 1841.

I keep coming across a Thomas who was baptised in Ampney Crucis,? Gloucestershire on 9 April 1797 with parents listed as Samuel & Hester. He appears in 1861, listed as 'cousin' with James & Ann Cleeveley in Ampney St Peter.

There is also a listing on National Probate Calendar for a Thomas Cleevely who died 4 May 1870 and letters of administration were granted to Maria Cleevely, widow, relict of the deceased. Who were they?
