William Gander was married to my maternal grandfather's first cousin. They sailed out to Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 1st May 1913. William worked on the railways and fatally shot himself. His widow sailed back from Buenos Aires on 17th October 1914.

I'm in contact with the descendants of the widow's brother. They provided me with the basic story of him shooting himself but know no more. I've found the sailing dates, which narrows down the time period in which the shooting occurred.

I would like to find out some more info on what actually happened, and was hoping for some ideas... :)

Many thanks :)

I've had a look through the newspaper archives I have access to and didn't find anything.

Thanks Maggie :) I doubt if it was big enough news to make the UK papers. I think I did ask about this a few years ago without success. I was hoping that someone might know of a new resource which had since become available online (BMDs, inquests, newspapers etc), without resorting to a trip to Argentina! :d

I can't see him in the overseas deaths on findmypast or the National Probate Calendar on ancestry. And I can't see any Argentinian database that is likely to help on FamilySearch. Nor anything useful on Cyndi's List, sorry.

There is a British-Argentinian database online, but it doesn't have such recent records.

I found a whole clutch of baps and marriages of cattle ranchers in that database, but the youngest of them died about 1920.
