I've just checked that Whittingham Hospital was in Amounderness District and it was, so I think that must be the right registration.

This looks like his marriage registration and the 1911 census shows he was married to a Mary, so I would imagine he married Mary Hird.

Here's the 1911 census (if you have access to Ancestry), which shows a Hird in the house, who may be a child his wife had before their marriage:

We have had a similar query on here about the same hospital cemetery and the records of the cemetery are with the Lancs RO. Katarzyna got a very fast and helpful response from them regarding her relative.

To find out where the records for the Whittingham Hospital cemetery might be I would begin by contacting Preston Library as they hold a local studies collection. They may well not have the records you need, but they should be able to tell you where they are held:

Reference & Information Dept. Harris Library, Market Place
PRESTON PR1 2PP
Telephone 01772 532676
Fax 01772 555527
Email: mailto:[email protected]

Whoops, didn't see you there, OC!!

Lauryn, I could go further back with Alfred, but maybe you should be thinking about getting some certificates for him first. It's very important you do this to save any mistakes being made. Was there anything else specifically, you wanted to know?

His marriage is transcribed on Lancashire Online Parish Clerks:
http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html

If you search for the marriage on there you will see the transcription. It was 16 Jul 1904 at St John the Evangelist, Worsthorne, Alfred Edgar Crack married Mary Hird and it says he was age 20, a collier, a bachelor, living in Worsthorne, father William Crack, engine driver.

Hi,
I have been reading some of the threads relating to Whittingham Hospial. Would anyone know if the burial/churchyard is still there to visit? Does anyone have the address? I have a relative that died in the hospital in 1959. I do have the death certificate.
Thank-you, any help would be appreciated

Welcome to the forum!

It looks as if the cemetery was certainly still there in 2011. Some photos:

It's at Whittingham near Preston, Lancs.

If you need to find out about hospital records see post #7 on this thread.
