There is an administration bond listed on Wiltshire County Council's site for James Newman, widower, 1847, maybe a bit too late for your James? It says "Community Westbury" next to it on the list, but when you click on it, it says Place Key Bratton/Westbury/Wiltshire Community Bratton. Whatever that means!

Also there is an admon bond listed for Ann Newman, labourer's wife, 1796. Again it says Community Westbury, but it shows place key as Bratton/Westbury/Wiltshire. Interesting date?

I agree on all counts! There are at least four james newman's on the 1841 census who could belong to the 1847 administration. However, that 1796 one for Ann Newman does seem interesting as Ann's last two daughter's were baptised in October that year, the older one (my Charity) being approx 7 years of age. Perhaps this was when Ann died? I wonder what info it might hold?
