It used to finish at 1941, so 25 years have been added onto the end, and it also looks as though they have filled in the gaps at and near the beginning. There is a thread about this on General already but posting it on here to make sure everyone sees it.

Ooh, brilliant, I'd missed that.

Ooh, so my grandfather did leave a will! I thought it was odd that I couldn't find one. He died in 1938, and probate wasn't granted till 1942, which is why it wasn't on the old index.

I had great fun on there today after seeing this thread.

Thanks Kate :):):)

Ancestry have now added 1973-1995 (I have updated the thread title). Of course it is free to search on the government's website, but maybe easier to search on ancestry.

Do you know why they have left a gap, 1967-1972?

Presumably they haven't been able to get copies of those years' books yet.

:( :( My sub ran out. My Dad's grandparents are on there and I can't see it.

Don't forget it's on the free site too, Toni:

Make sure to select the correct date range tab before searching.

I had forgotten, thanks. I think I've only looked for late deaths on there. No sure why.
