Following on from the To4gg this week I have a lead but want proof, do you have any ideas?

I have Rebecca Goldbold who married Samuel Aldous 16.11.1806 in Metfield. Glen (Oakum Picker) found that for me in the RO. Glen didn't mention the fathers' names (were they always stated?).
1841 HO107 1026 b2 p1

So.... Rebecca has no parents on my tree. She states she was born in Metfield.

In nearby Cratfield I found the Bullock family that has a Simon Godbold living next door in 1841, and with them in 1851.
1841-HO107 1015 b10 folio 15 p27
1851-HO107 1803 folio 419 p9

In 1851 Simon Godbold is listed as Mary Bullock's father. Mary was born in Metfield just 2 years later than Rebecca (1786).

Rebecca and Samuel Aldous did not (as far as I can see) have a son called Simon.

I'd love to prove Mary Bullock was Rebecca Godbold's sister.

I need to check the Metfield baptisms circa 1780-1800 (I found a marriage for Simon Godbold to Mary Jacob 17.11.1780)
How do I go about doing that? I can't see an OPC for Suffolk...

You can order copies of the Metfield PRs on microfiche from Suffolk Record Office, but there are 24 fiches so you would want to find out which fiche you need for those baptisms before ordering. Hopefully Suffolk Record Office can tell you.

Thanks Kate.

Would I need a special reader for microfiche??

She did? Not just in Suffolk?

Oh, yes. But can you get to a library or somewhere like that which has a microfiche reader that you can use? Of course it wouldn't be much use if you can't.

MERRY: She did? Not just in Suffolk?

Sorry, Merry. I wasn't clear. It was the marriage details that said "spinster of this parish".

Kate,
I'll have to check that with a library here then.

Spinster otp means she had been resident in the parish for at least three weeks. This is/was a requirement for a marriage by banns.

I have a fiche reader so if you can't find one to use you could pop it in the post to me.

I bought the Shimpling, Suffolk PR's and I bought the lot (12). I can't remember if they sell less than the full set.

Not until 1837 usually.

Sarah, FMP have more Suffolk records now. I haven't found Rebecca yet, but half an hour ago I couldn't get any results.
