Yes a lot better thanks Janet, but could the writing be made sharper do you think? I had no idea you lurked around these parts ! lol

Thank you!

I don't know. Maybe with better tools than I have, because I'm just using run-of-the-mill photo programs. I think you need to throw yourself on the mercy of a Photoshop wizard.

You did well Janet - now I know why you are so tired when you get to the Anzac thread lol

I didn't do much, Jood. Somebody more skilled really might get you something better.

Which bit(s)? I can have a go at transcribing it tomorrow if you like? Off to bed now though.

Absolutely no hurry Kate -

I'd like to confirm the date of arrival and his age - also what does it say up the top next to "whence received" ? Actually it says he was 5, but the year of arrival could be 17 or 19 I think?

Where it says down the bottom "how disposed of" - D.O.A - that surely cant be "dead on arrival"?

Please take your time.

I can't see a date of arrival, do you mean Date of Admission - 8 April 1897.

Age - Five years.

Whence received - B Asylum.

It does look like DOA but I don't know what it stands for in this context. The date disposed of is 14.4.09 so he would have been 17 years old then. Maybe in those days, that was the age when they left care and had to look after themselves?

I wonder what B Asylum meant - if he had a health problem?

Thanks Kate.

Probably Kate. We will never know why she gave the child up - she married soon after.

Thanks for your help.
