Hi, I believe this is two of my great great grandfathers (they were brothers) with two of their other brothers.

Can anyone else see the family resemblance? Won't say what it is so can see if anyone else picks it up.

Secondly, do you think these are the same men?

This is John (born c1856)

and I think this is George (born 1863)

Finally, do you think the other two men could be their brothers, born 1857 and 1866? And any ideas as to the date?

Thanks for looking!

They all look like brothers to me in the first one - especially with their diagnal partners if that makes sense. It's particularly around the eyes - I can't remember what it's called but their eyes are quite deep set under their brow. I also think it's very likely that the both sets of pictures are the same men

the men standing are younger, more fashionable, with their soft shirt collars. I don't know when that style came in, but that would be a guide to when the photo was taken. Also, is it a carte de visite or a cabinet? Is there anything on the back?

The two you have singled out have the same ears, stance & drooping eyelids, though they age differently & I take it that the b & w photos are approx 1930s & ww1?

Thanks Asa.

Phoenix - yes, the photo of George was taken about 1913/1914 as it has all his children in with the youngest being about 6 and the eldest who died in WW1.

John died in 1939, so I presume it was taken in the 1930s. We have some photos of John's daughter and son in law taken at the same time and from their ages, again I would estimate it to be in the 1930s.

The photo is 6 inches X 4 inches, and then stuck onto cardboard. Nothing on the back.

My great-grandfather was b 1854, so very similar era to these men and I have a lot of photos of him. The clothing styles and ages in your photos look virtually identical to mine.

The pics of John show his unusual ears, but other than that and their general ability to grow mostaches I am not spotting any particular unusual family resemblance, but do see a general one.

Yes I'd say the pictures pair up as you suggest.

Thanks Merry.

It has always been called "The Gregory Nose".

My Grandad had it, as did most of his brothers and sisters.

My Auntie has a slightly smaller version of it, but her cousin has the full on version!

It's a bit hard to see but it looks like they have it on here.

Now I've seen that more recent photo I can see it in the earlier ones, but I don't think I would have noticed it otherwise!
