View Full Version : Can you find J. E. Pusey, steward aboard Titanic

J E Pusey born c1877 London drowned when the Titanic sank in 1912.

According to records he was married and his last address when joining Titanic was 61 Manor Road, Itchen, Hampshire.

I am trying to see if there is a link to my OH's Pusey family, but I can't find anything on Ancestry.

There is a birth for a John Edwin Pusey born 1878 St. Geo. Hanover Square, London, but there is also a matching death the following year so it's not him.

Can anyone find him on any census please or find anything which will help me find his parenst, wife, etc.

His family are on the 1911 census at 61 Manor Road, Itchen with his details crossed out (presumably he was away at sea):
John Puzey Head 42 Married
Rose Puzey Wife (crossed out and replaced with Head) 38 Married 17 yrs 2 children 2 living Wiltshire Marden
Frank Puzey Son 16 Single Apprentice Billiard Table Maker Wiltshire Marden
Willie Puzey Son 10 School Hampshire Southampton

So the marriage looks likely to be John Edward Puzey / Rose Stone Oct-Dec 1896 Devizes.

How did you find that? I searched for Itchen on the 1911 for Pusey surname and got nothing.

1901 census in Portswood, Hampshire but again he isn't there:

Rose Puzey Wife M 28 Wilts Chirton
Francis Do Son 5 Do Marden

It's spelt Puzey on the censuses.

That worked for me on FMP and on Ancestry. Perhaps you accidentally had another box filled in from a previous search? (I'm always doing that!!)

He's 10 years older than his crew record, but it certainly looks like the right one. Don't think they are linked to our lot though.

Oops, no, too soon. This might be him in 1881:

(not London, but Wilts where Rose came from)
