Can anyone help to find this couple in 1901 or 1911 please.

Thomas Henry (or Harry) Fenton married Alice Phoebe Underwood in APril 1890.

They have one child that I know of Gilbert Audrey Fenton in 1892.

TNA have a file referring to divorce petition papers for them in 1898

I have just found a poss 2nd marriage for Thomas "Harry" Fenton to Mary Hendon Smith in December 1911. Thomas claims to be a bachelor though so not sure

I don't have a record of having found them in 1901 or 1911 and ancestry census is playing silly beggars for me at the minute.

Any help appreciated

Whereabouts did they live and what year was Thomas Henry and Alice Pheobe born?

sorry. Typed that in a rush as I had something boiling on the hob.

Thomas Henry Fenton was born in Leeds in 1865 - although he's from a family of travelling actors so he was actually 'from' London if that makes sense.

Alice Phoebe Underwood was born c1870 in Batterseas

Gilbert Audrey Fenton was born 1892 in New Cross (Surrey or London)

That 1892 birth is the last time I have track of them although there's possible remarriages for Alice in Wandsworth and Thomas in Streatham

Managed to get in and I've found Alice and Gilbert in 1901 with her new husband

Still no sign of Thomas though.

Does anyone know how much information I'm likely to get from the divorce records at TNA for a 1892 petition?

Divorce papers would include the marriage certificate, grounds for the divorce - sometimes with details, other cases somebody off to a hotel in Brighton! who gets the children. Some are far juicier than others

I've got a copy of my great-grandfather's 1920 divorce papers from TNA and they make very amusing reading. They list the three men my great-grandmother committed adultery with, including the one on the train from Gowerton to Dunvant :d:eek:

Did you find Thomas?

Could this be him in 1901 or have you already seen this, age is a bit out.

Cheers Maggie,

I had looked at him and like you wasn't sure. My man's a bootmaker or boot seller so don't know how closely related that would be to leather & grindery assistant.

I'll see if I can find that wife and daughter in 1911

Just recovering from an afternoon nap on the sofa - absolute bliss. If I ever give up work it's going to be for the ability to nap when I want
