In OH's Morris family I have:

Name: Joshua Morris
Gender: Male
Baptism/Christening Date: 1745
Baptism/Christening Place: POTTER-HANWORTH, LINCOLN, ENGLAND
Father's Name: Edward Morris
Mother's Name: Catharine
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C02892-3

When I google the name Joshua Morris, I keep on coming up with hits for Joshua Morris Alderman of Lincoln.

I'm wondering if they are the same person, but I'm not getting very far.

It appears he was Mayor of Lincoln for a year in 1786.

It might not be him as Morris is a common name in Lincolnshire.

Google Books has an obituary for him from The Gentleman's Magazine, 1796:
Suddenly at Cleethorps, near Grimsby, aged 51, Mr Joshua Morris of Lincoln, merchant. He served the office of Sheriff in 1772; in March 1786 was chosen Alderman, and elected Mayor the September following. His remains were interred at Potterhanworth, in the neighbourhood of Lincoln.

Oh, fantastic, Kate, that looks hopeful, doesn't it?

His will is listed on the Lincolnshire Consistory Court Wills' Index:

1797/ii/28

Great, the year of birth ties up.

Thanks so much, Kate, I've been wondering about this for the past week or so.

The Morrises were an interesting family, and with Lincstothepast I have made a big family tree for them.

My favourite name is "Brown Morris". I just wish I could find out what happened to two of his three children. I can't find any evidence of any descendants apart from them.

Joshua Morris was buried on 30th June 1796 at St Andrew's, Potterhanworth.

There was no additional information by the vicar, just his name and date of burial, like everyone else. I was hoping for an extra snippet.
