I have someone who, in 1851, claims to have been born in Birmingham, Worcestershire in abt 1793. Another site tells me that the city consists of areas from several counties (you learn something new every day with family history stuff:o)
Can sks please tell me what areas of Birmingham come/came under Worcs and where the records for that area are kept. Probably Birmingham I know but possibly Worcestershire archives?
Many thanks

I thought it was after that (later part of the 1800s) that Birmingham included parts of Worcestershire?

Have you looked closely at the image? There are a lot of transcription errors between Worcs and Warks :)

Can't answer the question directly, but I managed to find where OH's gunmaker g-grandfather hung out for a time. The address was Slaney Street, which disappeared long ago. By Googling I found a ref., which places it near to Snow Hill Station. It was a gun-making quarter, and I even found a photo online.

Wouldn't they be here?

Parts of Birmingham were in different counties right up until fairly recently (for me). Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire.

The records would be in the Birmingham Archives which is situated in the Central Library building.

Looking more carefully at the image I think probably is Warwickshire (but transcribed as Worcestershire in my defence!) http://imageservice.ancestry.co.uk/iexec/image.x?f=getimage&dbid=8860&iid=MDXHO107_1535_1535-0412&mac=00634642861732628104parKpV-YINc=&vx=0&vy=0&vw=2622&vh=1674&zp=75&qf=pq&rc=&sh=0&sw=0 Mary Ann Moore, with husband Henry.

I was hoping that if she was born in Worcs it might help narrow down the search area slightly.

Thanks for your input. Apologies for wasting your time (again!):o

It does say Warwickshire, but very easy to mistake for Worcestershire.
