How do you know his mother is Margaret Goymer if you don't have a birth or baptism for him, please, Babs?

On the 1851 census, there's a John Gormer in the Risbridge Union Workhouse at Haverhill (says Essex on ancestry but I thought it was in Suffolk?), age 81, widower, ag lab, born Wickhambrook Suffolk. Wickhambrook is only a couple of miles from Cowlinge.

Refs are HO107/1787 folio 160 page 5.

And there is a John Gormer death registered Oct-Dec 1854 Risbridge district, vol 4a p 261 (too early for age at death to be on the index).

Ooh, findmypast has a burial in Cowlinge in 1854 for John Gormer age 84, so it looks very likely to be him.

That's weird - Risbridge parish doesn't seem to exist. Wikipedia lists it as a hundred but there is no parish called Risbridge? Nor on GENUKI. Are you sure it was the Risbridge parish records?

Risbridge is a registration district in Suffolk.

Yes, but is it a parish, Glen?

Well, it doesn't appear in my book of contiguous Suffolk parishes & I've never heard of it so I think not.
