I am wondering if someone with World Ancestry might help to find a missing 20 years.

Rev Stephen Swabey b 1854 Prince Edward Island Canada. I can follow him up to 1906 when he left Australia and then he is lost until 1924 when he reappears sailing from Quebec to Liverpool. He then remained in the UK until he died in 1933 in Manchester.
I have checked Crockfords and there is a gap in his clerical career as listed there as well.

I am imagining that he returned to Canada or the States and perhaps did something else before returning to the church.

There are few hits on Ancestry in Canada and the States that could be him but I can't access the information.

There's a Stephen Swabey, newspaperman, in the California voters list of 1912.

I'll look at the others. No age though.

The one going from Quebec to Liverpool 1924 says he's born 1865 as well.

The 1924 passenger says his UK address is 2 Widecombe Tce Bath and he's a minister.

Why is he RC in 1910????? Quick conversion. Doesn't have his religion in 1924.

We might have two of them...lol

In 1901 there is a Stephen Swabey born 1865 Prince Edward Island. He's 'something' Ch England and a visitor in Berkshire. You could probably work out what the bit before Ch England says. PM me your email address if you want any images.

1881 he's at school in England.

The b1865 one is the one I want, he was b August 1864 and was one of many children of Rev Henry Birchfield Swabey who was in Canada for a while, so a number of children were b there, and then back to the UK. Stephen went to school and University in the UK, spent a couple of years in Burma and Australia before he vanished.

1910 Liverpool RC sounds like it may be the right one, he could have Poped it for a while before returning to the C of E fold.
He went back as the C of E Priest in Bath.

I have Ancestry.au so I can see all the UK and Australian images thanks Libby.

Are there any online Canadian census that cover the time he was missing?

He's not on the 1911 Canadian. He's missing from 1910 to 1924. So...he's gone from Aus to UK after 1906.

Thanks Libby, at least we have the sighting of him going to Canada so a couple more years are filled in, and I know where he went!

Hi Chris

A bit of a long shot, but I don't suppose a George Thomas Carlisle Parker Swabey features anywhere in your research?

We have a member of GF Ann Swabey

I wonder if it's worth contacting her to see if she has any info?

My main interest is in this particular man and his parents, we don't tend to go any further than that. He is part of the clergy research project, and not my own family.

PS, the last time I lost one of my clergy for 20 years he was serving a life sentence and I found him again when he got out! My own family are nowhere near as interesting!
