Can anyone tell me what it says in brackets after greengrocer for Ada's father's occupation.

Thanks Merry. I did wonder about master but the first letter doesn't look much like the M of Maidment.

No, I thought that too, but Maidment was an important word on the cert so might have been given more of a flourish!

He's working on "own acct" and "at home" in 1901 and 1911 and I went to look at the house last year. There wouldn't have been land attached to his house in 1905 but there was an open patch just across the road which may or may not have been available for growing at that time. I've wondered whether he was actually running a shop from his front room or whether he had a barrow/market stall so I was hoping the bit in brackets might throw more light.
