At the moment my subs to Ancestry and FMP have lapsed. I have had an email from a contact on the Sharratt / Sherratt side of OH's tree.

We swapped info a few months ago when I did have my subs and he has now questioned me on part of the info I gave him.

The William Sharratt concerned was born in 1827 in Lichfield, Staffs to Thomas and Phoebe nee Wilner.

This is the email I received:

One of the names you gave me to add to my tree was William Sharratt b. 1827 in Lichfield.

A fellow researcher who also has William on his tree has him married to Sarah (surname unknown) b. Longdon c. 1829 with three children - Emma b. 1869 in Adbaston, William b. 1871 in Adbaston & George b. 1879 in High Offley.

I have been searching to confirm this information without success. I have found a William & Sarah Sharratt in the 1851 census, living in Lichfield, Rugeley with their son, Thomas Sharratt b. 1851 in Colton, Staffordshire. I have also found what appears to be the same family in the 1861 census, now living in the parish of Adbaston in Newport, Gnosall, Shropshire - now using the name Sherratt. There are three further children - Phoebe b. 1853 in Colton, Francis b. 1856 in Colton and Harriet b.1860 in Cheswardine, Shropshire. Despite my best efforts, I cannot find any record of the family in later records so am unable to confirm the information I received elsewhere. Are you able to help me with any of this?

I have found the family he is referring to on Family Search on the 1881 census.

RG11- 2685 - 72 -12

That William says he is from Yoxall, Sharratt / Sherratt is very common in that area.

I should add that I don't have a census ref for William at all. I have his baptism and unsure now if I have him with his parents.

These are the census refs for his parents for 1841, 1851, 1861

1841 they were living in Hoar Cross, Staffordshire HO107; Piece 976; Folio: 4; Page: 1
1851 they were living in Hoar Cross, Staffordshire HO107; Piece: 2010; Folio: 399; Page: 6
1861 they were living in Hoar Cross, Staffordshire RG9; Piece: 1956; Folio: 60; Page: 4

I suppose really you or he would need a look at that marriage cert to check that William's father is shown as Thomas. Though naming the first 2 children Thomas and Pheby looks very promising! I can't find a full transcription of the marriage cert online.

I've given my contact a link to this thread. I'm not sure if he is a member here yet.

I agree with that. Trouble is I don't know if either of us would want to buy that, it's not direct line. Need to look at the marriage in the register really.
